We’ve recently come across instances of Signia hearing aid wearers having issues with using the app on their phone. It looks like the Signia app has received an update that has been creating some mischief. The symptoms can be the app not opening, the hearing aids not syncing or certain functions not working. The good news is it’s an easy fix and easy prevention. So if you are a Signia hearing aid wearer, read ahead!
Update the App
Whether you’re responding to an issue with devices or being preemptive, the steps are the same. Start by opening your App Store (iPhone users) or Google Play Store (Android users) and look up “Signia App”. One of the top results will be the Signia app with the white “S” on a red circle. Click on this app. Here it should offer you an option saying “update”, which you select. This will automatically update the app, which when restarted should sync directly with your hearing devices. If the devices still aren’t connecting automatically, read on ahead for the full instructions.
If the option says “install” instead, select this and install the app. Once done, you will need to connect your hearing aids to the app. This is where it can be different from user to user depending on your phone.
Connect your hearing aids to your phone
iPhone users:
- Go to your phone settings
- Scroll down to get into “Accessibility”
- Scroll down to get to “Hearing Devices”
- If your hearing aids appear at the top in blue and say “connected”, skip to the “App Setup” Step. If not, read on.
- Turn your hearing aids on and off again and hold them close to the phone (i.e. put them in and out of the charger, open and close the battery door. Alternatively, press the bottom button for 5 seconds and again to turn them back on)
- In the menu on your phone, select your hearing aids once they appear and show “L+R”
- Click on this, then click “pair” (twice if you have 2) and it will now appear in blue
Android users:
NB: If you have recently bought a new Android phone, you may be able to skip to the “App Setup” Step. This depends on whether you are using an Android 10 version. If your phone is a few years old, start with the below steps:
- Go to your phone settings
- Go to your Bluetooth connection (It may be under “Connections” first
- If your hearing aids appear under “Paired device” and say “connected”, skip to the “App Setup” Step. If not, read on.
- Turn your hearing aids on and off again and hold them close to the phone (i.e. put them in and out of the charger, open and close the battery door. Alternatively, press the bottom button for 5 seconds and again to turn them back on)
- Go back out of the Bluetooth settings and back into the Bluetooth so it starts looking for devices
- Find your hearing aid listed under “available devices” and select “pair”. It will then appear under “Paired devices” and should say “connected”
App Setup
Once your hearing aids are connected to the phone and the app has been installed/updated, it needs setting up. Open the Signia app.
- If it offers choices on how to connect the hearing aids, select Bluetooth and let it connect. This can take a minute while it goes through the necessary steps. Once finished, click “let’s go” and you are finished!
- If it shows a volume bar in the middle already, you will need to forget the devices. Click the 3 lines in the top left corner and select “settings”. Then click on “app setup” and “set up the app”. It will say that this will erase the settings, and click “ok”. Then select Bluetooth to connect your hearing aids and wait for it to finish.
